Watch: Power Gets Pulled, Jack White Plays On

Jack knows how to make the magic happen. Third Man Records mastermind Jack White took to Dublin’s Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Thursday with the Kills, and defied a venue plug-pulling by turning a curfewed finish into a beautiful moment.

After a marathon set spanning The Dead Weather, White Stripes, Raconteurs and his own solo work, the venue shut down the PA during a prolonged rendition of closer “Goodnight, Irene” with Kills/Dead Weather singer Alison Mosshart sharing mic duties. Unfazed, rock n’ roll’s Willy Wonka kept right on playing.

In the video below (plug-pulling takes place around 4:30), Jack can be seen hushing the crowd to explain “the PA’s gone, alright?” He then gives them a line to sing along, belting out the final lines to the Leadbelly classic before the crowd engages in perfect, climactic unison.

We’re looking forward to catching Jack next month in his hometown, particularly after he blew our minds with an incredible performance at Bonnaroo earlier this month.
