We knew Kanye West would have something to say about his nightmarish 2008 performance at Bonnaroo, but we didn’t expect endless mood-killing ranting bloviation about everything imaginable. As a result, Kanye’s headlining set on Friday night at Bonnaroo 2014 was underwhelming and uneven, despite wildly enthusiastic sing-alongs to every single cut in the set. Fresh “Fuck Kanye” paint on the porta-potties Saturday morning certainly suggested a lacking redemption, however. Our takeaway? People may talk a lot of trash, but they dance their asses off when Yeezy approaches.

That was just a taste of the wild ride Friday brought us at Bonnaroo, which took us through powerfully strong sets from Poliça, CHVRCHES, Vintage Trouble and more. Die Antwoord closed the night off with a 2am set that was dark and aggressive enough to guarantee a few nightmares in the chemically-addled camping masses rocking the almighty hell out on the fields of ‘Roo.
