Wayne Rooney “Not Interested” in Paul Scholes’ Criticisms of Him

Wayne Rooney has said he is “not interested” in the criticisms leveled at him by former England and Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes.

Scholes spoke out against Rooney’s consistent place in England’s starting eleven, questioning whether coach Roy Hodgson had the “balls” to drop the striker even if he performed poorly during the World Cup 2014 tournament.

Speaking to Huffington Post, Rooney responded to Scholes’ remarks, saying: “To be honest, I’m not really interested in what anyone else has got to say. I’m interested in what Roy Hodgson and the coaching staff here and the people around me say. People have their opinions but I don’t agree with them.

“Paul Scholes has been a teammate but he’s been away from the first team for a long time. I’ve seen a lot of you saying he’s coached me and been around the team but he hasn’t. I’m not really going to react. I’m not interested. He’s got his opinions so let’s leave it at that.”

Rooney scored a fumbled goal in England’s 2-2 draw against Ecuador in a World Cup warm-up match earlier this week, though put in an altogether unspectacular performance.
