Star Wars: Attack Squadrons Canceled, Beta Shut Down

Disney’s first foray into the Star Wars gaming universe has been an unsuccessful one, after it was announced that Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, its upcoming free-to-play PC space combat game, has been canceled.

In a statement published on the game’s official site, Disney Interactive said: “After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences. We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.”

The game, which was being developed Area 52 Games, allowed for 16-player space combat in a variety of customizable spacecraft lifted from the Star Wars universe. It was the first brand new Star Wars IP to be announced following Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars license, after it was revealed that LucasArts would be shutting its doors.

This news comes after the bemoaned cancelation of Star Wars 1313, which followed the story of bounty hunter Boba Fett, and an unannounced standalone Darth Maul game, which you can view footage of below.

At least we’ve still got Star Wars: Battlefront 3 to look forward to though, right guys? Right..?
