Kasabian Talk Decline Of Big Day Out

Kasabian lead singer Tom Meighan still hopes to feature on a Big Day Out bill in the future, but believes the festival’s recent decline is sad.

Meighan says the troubling news associated with one of Australia’s premier and longest running summer music events was not lost across the other side of the world, specifically referring 2014 issues which included significant financial losses, the scrapping of lone West Coast stop Perth and co-headliner Blur’s late withdrawal from the festival.

“I’d love to come down for Big Day Out,” he told FL. “I like the festival [but] it’s gone downhill a lot recently you know. It’s not as popular as it used to.”

Having been involved with some stellar BDO lineups in the past- including alongside Kanye West, Soundgarden in 2012 and Muse-headlined runs in 2007 and 2010- Kasabian are willing to help BDO return to glory and don’t believe the festival is alone in its struggle.

“I remember coming out five or six years ago and it was massive,” Meighan said, “and now it’s just gone down a bit, which is quite sad.”

“Music festivals seem to be a dying thing,” he said. “There’s just too many of them.”

Kasabian are heading Down Under in August to promote the upcoming album. The boys have already dropped two tracks, ‘eez-eh’ and ‘Bumblebee’,and will be headlining a number of major international events in the lead-up to the stop in Australia, including Glastonbury in the UK.
