Sony Releases a Huge Batch of Driveclub Information

Sony has released a whole heap of new information pertaining to Driveclub, Evolution Studios’ heavily anticipated upcoming racer.

Paul Rustchynsky, the game director of Driveclub, discusses the game’s microtransactions, DLC and more in an interview with IGN. Rustchynsky explained that he understood the frustrations a lot of gamers have with microtransactions, but insisted that they won’t be intrusive in the Driveclub experience, saying: “In Driveclub you earn Fame, and as you earn Fame, you level up. Every time you level up, we give you another car. There’s no double gating or anything along those lines, you’re given the car straight away without having to do anything else. The only thing we do have is a couple of shortcuts.

“If you want to unlock a car immediately, you can pay to unlock that car straight away but it’s not a consumable microtransaction. We don’t let people buy Fame, for example and spend lots and lots. The idea is if you want to shortcut things you can do – it’s identical to what we did in Motorstorm RC. So if you played that, you know what we’re doing here.”

Rustchynsky also said that the game would allow players to customize their vehicles with different paint colors, paint types, shapes, livery patter and more, along with players being able to customize the setting of their ride.

Speaking of the cars that would be available in the game, Rustchynsky confirmed that the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Hennessey Venom GT and the Pagani Wira would all make an appearance, along with the McLaren P1.

Driveclub will be available to download for free via PS Plus, though this will be a cut-back version of the game which will only contain ten cars and five tracks. The full title will retail for $60.

Sony also released two videos explaining Clubs, Face-Offs and Challenges, which you can watch below.

Driveclub will be coming exclusively to the PS4 on October 7th.
