WWE RAW Recap 4/21/14: Masked Kane Destroys Daniel Bryan

Rybaxel attack The Usos, Goldust/Cody Rhodes feud brewing

Cody Rhodes did the age-old “get the f*** off me” routine to Goldust after his brother tried to console him after their loss to The Usos, which inevitably means that they’ll be splitting up soon. I’m happy about this, because since they brought some form of credibility back to the WWE Tag Team titles, The Rhodes Brothers haven’t really been up to much lately. A Cody Rhodes heel turn should put him into the Intercontinental championship picture, which is having its own renaissance now that WWE has yet again forgot how to build any interest for the tag titles.

Rybaxel, who were sitting on commentary throughout the match, attacked The Usos following their win, setting the two teams up for a match at Extreme Rules. I hope Rybaxel wins this match and become the new Tag Team champions, because I love The Big Guy and The Usos are beyond boring to me. Yes, they’ve had some good matches and they’ve got a fun entrance, but while they’ve got a reasonable amount of fan support they lack any discernible form of charisma – and no, jumping over the top rope over and over again is not a substitute for charisma.

Rybaxel for WWE Tag Team champions, please.

Jack Swagger costs Cesaro’s place in the Intercontinental tournament finals

Prior to this match the dirtsheets had reported that Cesaro was going to be crowned the next Intercontinental champion at Extreme Rules… but no! Thanks to a run-in from Cesaro’s former tag partner Jack Swagger and former manager Zeb Coulter, Rob Van Dam picked up the win via count-out and will now go on to lose to Bad News Barrett in the finals on next week’s RAW.

Aside from Cesaro’s loss, which now means that he’ll definitely be facing Swagger at Extreme Rules, the biggest talking point from the match was Cesaro’s terrible new extrance music. Last week I noted that Cesaro’s entrance music since splitting from The Real Americans was basically Heyman’s voice, but now he’s been given a real theme, and my word is it awful. However, as someone pointed out on r/SquaredCircle, this was once used as Triple H’s stopgap entrance music…

…so maybe Cesaro will be okay.

The Wyatt’s/Cena Feud is still going on

The main event of this week’s RAW was decided by the WWE Universe via the WWE app, as they were given three choices regarding who John Cena would face: would he go 1-on-1 with Luke Harper? 1-on-2 with Luke Harper & Erick Rowan? Or 1-on-3 with Luke Harper, Erick Rowan & Bray Wyatt? Predictably, the WWE fans elected for the latter option, and so Cena squared off against the entire Wyatt Family in a handicap match that resulted in a squash, ending in a DQ finish as the Wyatt’s continue to not care about whether they win or lose as long as they inflict physical/mental damage upon their opponents.

I’m so done with this Wyatt’s/Cena angle. There’s not the risk of Cena “joining” the Wyatt’s or allowing them to get into his head as there was with Daniel Bryan, so this feud is only going to end one way: with Cena “rising above” their mind games and overcoming the Family, and Bray & co. taking their shtick elsewhere. RAW went off the air with Bray cradling Cena in his arms and leading the WWE fans in attendance in a chant of ‘The Whole World in His Hands’.

I’m expecting their steel cage match at Extreme Rules to be a highlight of the show as they’re both solid in-ring performers, but I was already bored of this storyline before WrestleMania 30. I sincerely hope it doesn’t carry over to Payback, but considering that Bray is more likely to get a win over Cena in a gimmick match, it’s likely that this will turn into a “best of 3” feud and Cena will get his comeuppance after Extreme Rules.
