Microsoft Announce 5 Million Xbox One’s Sold but the Information is Misleading

Fresh off of Sony’s announcement that the PS4 has sold 7 million units, Microsoft has revealed that it has sold 5 million units of the Xbox One… to stores.

This is the kind of misleading information that will often be misconstrued as Microsoft actually selling 5 million Xbox One’s to people, despite that not actually being the case. What Microsoft has actually done is sell 5 million units to retailers, with the current amount of consoles purchased by consumers having not yet been announced.

Microsoft revealed that this figure is “60% up” from the amount of Xbox 360’s they sold to retailers, though that essentially means that there are more Xbox One’s currently available in stores right now, nothing more, nothing less.

However, Microsoft did announce some impressive software statistics, as it was revealed that an average of 2.9 games are sold with each console. You can read more about the console’s software sales here.
