PJ Harvey “couldn’t make” the Nirvana reunion, after Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic approached her to take Kurt Cobain’s place for the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told Rolling Stone that they had approached a number of artists for their performance, but many of them declined because they were “nervous”. “I think some of them were maybe apprehensive because of how heavy the whole thing is”, Grohl said.
According to Grohl, Kurt Cobain “loved” PJ Harvey, but the English singer/songwriter wasn’t available to make the performance, and therefore declined the invitation.
In the end, the late Cobain’s place in the group was replaced by four female performers: Lorde, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and St Vincent. Grohl said that each female performer was intended to represent different eras of the band’s influences. Grohl also added that Lorde in particular has “an incredible future ahead of her as a writer, performer and vocalist.”
The event took place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 10th.
