The Sun and Mirror Banned by Bayern Munich for “Dirty Schwein” Headline

The Sun and Mirror have been banned from the return leg of Manchester United and Bayern Munich’s Champions League quarter-final, after the Mirror’s back page headline read “YOU DIRTY SCHWEIN”.

Bayern said that the headline was “disrespectful, discriminatory and personally insulting”, adding that it would “not be accepted as a form of reporting”. The Mirror was subsequently banned from attending the next leg of the quarter-final, as was The Sun, even though it did not feature the headline on its paper.

The headline was in reference to Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger receiving a second yellow card during Man United and Bayern’s first meeting earlier this week, after Schweinsteiger fouled Wayne Rooney.

The Sun and the Mirror will now be refused entry to report on the teams’ next match on April 9th.
