Xbox One Controllers May Not Receive PC Drivers, PC Controller Sold Separately

Xbox One controllers will not be receiving PC drivers, if a rumour circulating today is to be believed.

A report from NextInGaming suggests that Microsoft will not be releasing drivers for the controller, and will instead by making a Windows version of it that will be compatible with PC. Considering that the Xbox 360 controller could be used both with the console and PC, if this report is to be believes, then this will be a blow for those who hoped that they could use the new Xbox One controller with their PC, too.

The author of the report allegedly made contact with a source they had at Microsoft, who said: “There is a Windows version of the controller currently in the works, I can confirm. The plan is to pretty much leave those who have the controller that came with the console in the dark. Microsoft realized they could make an extra $50 or so bucks off of NOT releasing the drivers so it seems we will either not release the drivers at all or wait until a far later date.

“Even with the drivers they would most likely make you buy the wireless dongle and not allow you use the controller via micro USB.”

While this is obviously speculation at this point, it would be a dishonest move from Microsoft if this were to be the case, as they had previously stated that PC drivers would be released for the controller at some point this year. I hope this isn’t the case, and if it is I’ll be sticking with my Xbox 360 controller for PC gaming.
