Jack Tretton is No Longer President of SCEA

After working under Sony’s umbrella for 19 years, Jack Tretton has stepped down from the position of President at SCEA. No reason has been given other than the fact that both parties would like to move in new directions.

Tretton had the following to say about his departure:

Working at SCEA for the past 19 years has been the most rewarding experience of my career. Although I will deeply miss the talented team at SCEA and the passion demonstrated every day by our fans, I’m very excited about starting the next chapter of my career. I want to thank the employees, partners and customers for their tireless commitment to the PlayStation brand and, of course, to our fans who have pushed us to new heights of innovation and entertainment over the past two decades. I leave PlayStation in a position of considerable strength and the future will only get brighter for PlayStation Nation.

Jack Tretton has become one of the most familiar faces in Sony management since the brand’s start in 1995. He worked in a variety of roles during the PS1, PS2, and PS3 eras before being crowned President of SCEA in 2006. He gained much of his popularity from being the lead presenter of Sony’s E3 press conferences where he’s delivered some of the most memorable PlayStation news in the past six years.

This news follows yesterday’s shocker that Amy Hennig no longer works for Naughty Dog, one of Sony’s premier first-party studios.

While the two stories aren’t related, it does signal some major shifts happening within Sony’s bubble. They might not be the shifts that gamers are looking for, but nonetheless Sony is doing everything in its power to maintain the PS4’s momentum while several other divisions of the company battle with financial distress.
