Sony has exceeded its own expectations with the PS4’s launch, with PS4 sales passing the 5 million mark before the console has even made its way to Japan.
Sony projected 5 million sales by the end of the financial year on March 31st, but the system has reached yet another milestone prematurely.
The PS4 will launch in Japan on February 22nd, where it is expected to sell out within 24 hours of release, echoing its UK launch where it became the fastest-selling console in history in the region.
Microsoft has yet to release Xbox One sales figures for this year, but it previously confirmed that its system had shifted 3 million units by the end of 2013.
