Sony has revealed its third-quarter financials, and the success of the PS4 has meant that the company’s gaming division has made a huge increase over its numbers last year.
Sony has stated that the division made 442 billion yen ($4.2 billion) in comparison to its 268.5 billion yen takings last years. That’s a 64% increase. Suffice to say that the PS4 has thus far been a blessing for the company, hiking up its overall profits to 27 billion yen ($257 million), which is a marked improvement from last year in which the company had losses of 10.8 billion yen ($106 million),
Unfortunately, Sony will also see 5,000 layoffs, as it sells its Vaio PC division to Japan Industrial Partners and splits its TV division into a subsidiary dedicated to 4K.
