In addition to facepalming the shit out of homophobia at the Grammys on Sunday night, Macklemore won damn near every single Grammy that wasn’t occupied by Daft Punk or Lorde. During the non-televised pre-show part of the evening, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis locked down Best Rap album snatching it from the clutches of favored nominee Kendrick Lamar for his Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City album, which also contended for Album Of The Year and Best New Artist (Mack won the latter as well). As a result, one of the most promising new artists of 2013 left the ceremony without a singe trophy.

That didn’t sit well with Macklemore. And shortly thereafter, he posted a text screenshot to Instagram, apologizing for his win over K Dot. And here’s what he wrote as an explanation:
My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys
