Microsoft: More Xbox One Exclusive Announcements Coming in 2014

The Xbox One shot out of the gates like a wild bull last November, accompanied by several impactful exclusives. Now that things have slowed down (January is awful, in case you didn’t notice), gamers are wondering what’s to come for Microsoft’s new console. Microsoft’s reply is hopeful.

After being asked by a fan on Twitter if any Xbox One exclusives will be announced this year, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer replied:

We will have [announcements] in 2014, already working on the plan. I want to have a great E3 this year.

Without any announcements, the Xbox One has a strong list of upcoming games. Titles like Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, and Halo 5 have great potential, and there’s even Below for those who have a taste for indie titles.

But Microsoft is limited to a much smaller library of first-party studios. Competing with Sony isn’t easy, and sometimes dirty work is required, like the EA-Microsoft deal on Titanfall which ripped the possibility of a PlayStation version right out of Sony’s hands.

Microsoft has been in the video game business for a long time, and has some prolific IPs yet unutilized for next-gen, such as Gears of War. However, a few of these franchises really slowed down in sales and popularity toward the back-end of the Xbox 360’s lifespan. New IPs are probably a safe guess for what’s behind the curtain.

E3 will likely be the platform for Microsoft’s unknown game announcements, and will be hosted from January 10th to the 12th.
