Now that the holidays are over, how did the Xbox One fare? Some doubted its ability to sell-through with a $499 price tag. Apparently, millions of consumers thought its offerings were well worth the price of admission.
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One finished 2013 with 3 million units sold.
Previously, the Xbox One achieved 1 million units sold during its first day, and 2 million within three weeks. The new figure indicates that it sold an additional million during the final three weeks of December.
In regards to what’s to come, Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi commented:
We’re excited for the year ahead and will be working hard to bring Xbox One to more fans and more markets around the globe. 2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One including “Titanfall,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Project Spark,” “Sunset Overdrive,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Destiny,” “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare,” and “The Elder Scrolls Online,” among others. More games, more features, more content, more fun – all coming your way this year.
Titanfall is only two months from releasing and is arguably the biggest game launch of 2014. Additionally, some analysts speculate that a price drop and/or new SKU configuration is in the cards for the new year.
Microsoft plans to release software updates that introduce improvements and tackle issues noted by consumers. This, along with strong first-party and third-party support in 2014, should lead to more impressive sales figures in the future.
