Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most popular footballer in the world of 2013.
Ronaldo beat out other players including Messi, Neymar Jr. and Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale to top Starcount‘s list.
Starcount monitored the names of all footballers across various social media platforms in order to deliberate who had been the most discussed this past year, and discovered that Ronaldo had gained 20 million fans across five social networks.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who is the bookies’ second-favourite to take home this year’s Ballon d’Or behind Ronaldo, was fifth in the list after doubling his number of Twitter followers to 420,000.
