Not only is Dave Grohl producing the Zac Brown Band’s next album, the four-track EP will also bear the name of the Foo Fighters/Them Crooked Vultures rocker. The Grohl Sessions Volume One will be available on December 10 via iTunes an will feature ZBB taking on a more rock-driven sound, with special guest performances from Oteil Burbridge (bass) and Grohl (drums).
“Day for the Dead” will be accompanied by a version of The Wood Brothers’ “The Muse” as well as ZBB originals “All Alright” and “Let It Rain.”
The sessions took place at Nashville’s Southern Ground Studios, and both Zac Brown and Grohl had gushing accolades for each other and the recording process.
“We have a lot of freedom now that we didn’t have before. We can record this amazing music and within two weeks, three weeks put it out to the people,” Brown said in a behind-the-scenes video. “We just opened up to Dave and said, ‘What do you think about this?’ He said, ‘Were going to track it to tape, we’re not going to use any computers.’ I just felt in my gut that it was the thing to do. I felt like everything i’ve ever seen him do was great.”
A fan of the band, Grohl was blown away that the band wanted to use his name for the record title.
“He told me he wanted to call it The Grohl Sessions and I said, ‘Dude, are you sure you want to do it?’ It’s the most flattering thing anyone has ever done for me. It’s going to be really weird to click on iTunes and see a recording called The Grohl Sessions. I’m not sure that there are any other bands like them. I swear to God, if I weren’t in my band I would be in this f***n band. I am not kidding. I would be in this band in a heartbeat.”
