Vans Warped Tour On The Move

The Vans Warped Tour will undergo a change of location, announcing a move back to Melbourne’s Federation Square on Wednesday in an attempt to avoid a controversial clash of fans.

The punk/hardcore festival is making a long awaited return to Australian soil in late November and December, however organisers have opted to relocate the Melbourne leg of the tour, taking it back to the inner-city Birrarung Marr alongside the Yarra River.

The cause of the move? Outspoken promoter AJ Maddah wants to avoid the mix of Sterosonic fans at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds by moving away from the nearby Flemington Racecourse.

Maddah eloquently took to Twitter, saying he didn’t believe the two crowds would benefit from partying so close to one another.

“Too much of a shitfight with so many juicers and pillpoppers next door for Stereosonic,” he said in a Twitter interaction with a fan before removing the comment and apologising after being called out by Stereosonic’s Richie McNeill.

A second Warped Tour announcement is expected in a couple of days, however just a few thousand tickets remain some of the festival destinations. Sydney is yet to sell-out, however just 3,000 tickets remain for Melbourne.

Maddah says fans should expect another four or five international acts to be announced in the second lineup reveal with one of those hopefully being punk veterans Millencolin– considered a 50% chance of appearing at the Warped Tour.

2013’s Warped Tour acts already confirmed in the first announcement include The Offspring, Parkway Drive, The Used, Simple Plan and New Found Glory.
