The new Thief trailer, dubbed the “gameplay trailer” even though it features very little actual gameplay, is a little underwhelming.
They say you should never judge a book by its cover and you should never judge a game by its trailer, but when that trailer features dubstep it’s hard to not be left scratching your head confusedly.
The trailer mostly highlights those explosion-filled action set-pieces we’re all too often forced to tolerate, which makes me worried that we’re going to see developer Eidos Montreal attempting to turn this into another big-budget FPS with added sneakiness. Thief was always about avoiding conflict, not running through a wall of fire and jumping on people’s heads.
Hopefully this gameplay trailer isn’t indicative of the final product, and our friends over at GameRevolution have assured us that it’s not in their preview of it, but we’re reserving our own judgement until its release next year.
