Watch Pearl Jam’s ‘Lightning Bolt’ Short Film Featuring Judd Apatow, Carrie Brownstein & More

Watch below as Pearl Jam discuss their upcoming tenth studio album Lightning Bolt with Judd Apatow, Carrie Brownstein, Mark Richards, and Steve Gleason. The massively promising new release arrives October 15th, and is preceded by singles “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens”.

“It’s good to wait until we feel like we do have something to say,” bassist Jeff Ament explains when asked why there’s been such a delay between albums. Another highlight is frontman Eddie Vedder equating a song to surfing, wherein the music is the wave, and the words are the board on which we ride through the tide.

Stay with it till the end, where you see Eddie rocking out like a little kid to his own band’s new music while sitting in a classic old Lincoln.

The 30 Best Pearl Jam Songs of All Time

As Eddie explains, “Everybody’s kind of playing out of their minds on this record.” And he’s right. Having heard the entire album, this particular superfan can attest to the notion that this is the band’s most focused, cohesive and flat-out exhilarating batch of songs since 2002’s Riot Act. Melodically inventive, instrumentally far outside the box, Lightning Bolt is a surprise at literally every turn. Highlight tracks include the rip-roaring trap-door fest of “My Father’s Son,” the midtempo gorgeousness of “Yellow Moon” and the hauntingly spacious, goosebump-inducing “Pendulum,” among others.

We’ll bring you our full review when the embargo lifts and we can speak freely about the record in depth. Until then, pre-order Lightning Bolt at Pearl Jam’s official site, and stay tuned for more updates as the album release nears…
