The Homebake Festival is moving right onto the steps of one of Australia’s most iconic attractions in 2013.
Beasts of Bourbon frontman Tex Perkins let slip the news in an interview with ABC Dig Music.
“I’m going to announce that here,” Perkins said. “Beasts of Bourbon at Homebake – and Homebake will be performed on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. They probably don’t want me to announce that.”
Homebake Festival is returning for an 18th time on December 7 after originally debuting in Byron Bay in 1996 featuring a lineup including Spiderbait, Silverchair, You Am I and Grinspoon.
Traditionally a festival representing Australian rock, Homebake Festival copped a bit of flack in 2012 when its “Global Edition”, featuring New York band Blondie, headed a cast that also included Kimbra, Something For Kate, Hilltop Hoods and Tame Impala, a year after returning from a festival break with Cut Copy, Gotye, Grinderman and Ladyhawke.
Led by Crowded House, You Am I, Cut Copy and Eddy Current Supression Ring, the 2008 Homebake Festival sold-out 20,000 tickets in just 10 minutes. Last year’s version was held at Sydney The Domain.
The Homebake lineup is expected to be released soon.
