Bruno Mars Set For Super Bowl Halftime Show

Pop superstar Bruno Mars will be the performer for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show next February, the NFL announced Sunday.

Mars appeared live on “Fox NFL Sunday” for the announcement as Sunday afternoon games in the regular season began. Sure, the Super Bowl is still five months away, but the early promotion shouldn’t be a shock to anyone who’s been to the department stores and seen Christmas decorations on display already.

“The Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year,” the NFL news release said. “More than 110.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show.”

Beyonce appeared at this year’s Super Bowl, while previous bowls have featured Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.

At just 27 years old, the “Grenade” singer has been nominated for 14 Grammys and has sold over 115 million singles, and has earned a reputation as an all-around consummate performer through various appearances, including a spectacular hosting gig on Saturday Night Live last year.
