Titanfall Producer Says One-Hit Kills in Battlefield and Call of Duty Are “Terrible”

Have you ever been insta-gibbed in a Call of Duty or Battlefield game? Well, the producer of Titanfall has, and he didn’t take kindly to it.

Speaking to VG247, Titanfall producer Drew McCoy shared his vision of making his upcoming Xbox One and PC shooter a fair competitive experience. He said:

It was originally envisioned to be more of a power suit, maybe eight or nine feet tall, like a person could just fit right inside of it. We were talking about it and one of the things we were doing was, we wanted to work on survivability in a multiplayer game, because if you play Battlefield or Call of Duty and you get head-shotted from across the map, you have no idea what happened. You’re instantly dead and it’s terrible.

A sizeable portion of Titanfall‘s development team, including head management, previously worked at Infinity Ward during the development of Call of Duty titles. Furthermore, they have a lot of experience with making compelling online experiences. Although one-shot kills are exciting when you’re on the shooting end of things, it tends to favor those who see the other player first, further rewarding players who camp. Judging by video footage of Titanfall and McCoy’s quote, it appears the game will grant a lot of health to players so they can battle to the death.
