Prince Joins Twitter (Hilariously), Drops New Song ‘Groovy Potential’

So it finally happened. Without a hint to his ridiculous three year-old claim that the internet is “completely over,” Prince has joined Twitter

No, this isn’t yet another awesome impersonator, though we’ve seen plenty of great parody accounts. An employee of Twitter Music confirmed it’s really him after checking with his representatives.

The Purple One started off in typically tongue-in-cheek egomaniacal fashion, leading with “PRINCE’S 1ST TWEET… TESTING 1, 2…,” then “PRINCE’S 2ND TWEET,” before going fully for internet gold by taking a picture of his food (see? He fits right in), and then tweeting the picture you see above, which originally surfaced on  this Funny or Die article written by comedian Jake Fogelnest, who runs the awesome parody account @PrinceTweets2U.

He also posted part of a funk-sex new song, “Groovy Potential” – you can hear a minute and 22 seconds of the track below. The full version is available to buy for 88 cents, oddly.

Prince also took the opportunity to tease himself a bit, specifically his sue-happy, copyright-obsessed antics. He posted and immediately removed a live video of his 2013 “Let’s Go Crazy” remake, writing “CATCH THIS NOW B4 MY LAWYERS DEW.”

Good god, is that Lolspeak annoying.

The internet has a new source of fascination. Tweet on, sweet Prince.
