To many Bayonetta is one of if not the best hack and slash game of recent years. When a successor was announced as exclusive to Nintendo hardware, gamers around the world began to voice their concern. However, there may still be a future for the series on other platforms.
Bayonetta series director Hideki Kamiya would like to make a Bayonetta 3. After being asked if a third title in the series is probable, Kamiya replied on Twitter saying “I hope so”, hinting at the success of Bayonetta 2 dictating what happens to the series going forward.
Unfortunately, that’s just about the worst thing Kamiya could’ve said. The Wii U’s attachment rate, especially for third-party titles, is extremely low. The original Bayonetta broke the one-million milestone with ease. Meanwhile, not a single game, not even New Super Mario Bros. U, has accomplished that on the Wii U.
To some the outlook of Bayonetta 2 has been a reason to invest into a Wii U, so hope is not lost. But you shouldn’t count on a production of Bayonetta 3 unless something drastic happens.
