There’s a strong correlation between a console’s success and its game library. Though, in order to have a great game library the platform needs strong developer support. As of right now, the PS4 has an edge over the Xbox One in this regard. Well, at least in Europe.
As reported by IGN, a thorough survey of over 300 European game developers has revealed their preference for the PS4 over the Xbox One. 13% of those surveyed were confirmed to be working on a PS4 title as opposed to 9% for Xbox One. Meanwhile, 23% will work on a PS4 game in the future, an important factor which the Xbox One only earned 14% of those polled.
Developers tend to go where the money is, but since that’s yet to be determined hardware is the big divider. Sony specifically built the PS4 to be gamer and developer centric with uncompromised hardware. It’s a next-generation leader in terms of processing power, runs on familiar x86 architecture, and has a controller that improves precision for shooters.
The Xbox One has great hardware, too. However, Microsoft’s decision to bundle the Kinect 2.0, which consequently raised the price point to $499, and its major stumble with DRM policies have cost it valuable developer support. With a new head of Xbox and several more months to go until launch, this could easily turn around, but not without a fight.
