Final Fantasy VII Lands on Steam with Better Graphics, Additional Features

Few things have been asked for more than a remake of Final Fantasy VII. To gamers who grew up in the 90s, it was one of the most mind-blowing experiences of an already inspiring generation of games. Square Enix might be hesitant to tamper with such a legendary title, but today, it took one big step to entertain the game’s widespread nostalgia.

FFVII is now available on Steam for only $11.99. Its most obvious selling point is its optimization for PC which brings improved character models and more. It might not be the HD version RPG fans have been clamoring for, but it’s a halfway point. Although that alone makes it worth the price of admission for many, all of the following are thrown in for good measure:

  • Achievements – Whether you’re a seasoned FINAL FANTASY VII veteran or exploring this RPG classic for the very first time, show off your in-game accomplishments and put your gaming skills to the test with 36 brand new achievements to unlock. Share your profile with friends online to find out who is the ultimate FINAL FANTASY fan.’
  • Cloud Saves – If you’re away from home or simply using a different computer to play, enjoy FINAL FANTASY VII wherever you are. With cloud save support in FINAL FANTASY VII you can continue your game progress right where you left off (Requires Internet Connection. Saves can only be transferred between a maximum of 3 computers at any one time).
  • Character Booster – Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.

A similar Final Fantasy VIII package is currently in-development, although it’s only confirmed for Japan. It has improved visuals and the features seen in bullet-point above. Before long, the entire anthology of PS1 Final Fantasy classics will be relived and Square Enix will have no choice but to remake FFVII. Or so you can hope.
