Top 10 Patriotic Sports Movies
-
10 D2: The Mighty Ducks
A feel good movie that everyone from kids to adults can enjoy. The Mighty Ducks return in this one to compete in the Junior Goodwill Games, representing the good ol' US-of-A.
-
9 Beerfest
Do you like beer? Do you like to laugh? Do you like it when us 'Mericans defeat them foreigners? Throw this baby in the DVD player.
-
8 Kingpin
Mix one of America's greatest pastimes in bowling and an Amish guy and this is an outrageous comedy any American can enjoy.
-
7 Rudy
Find any excuse to call this movie patriotic... I feel it's a metaphor for the hard-working blue collar class of America that proves if you work hard enough, you can accomplish your wildest dreams. Only watch this if you feel comfortable crying in front of your girl... or just leave the couch during the final five minutes like I do.
-
6 Hoosiers
Thinking a little outside the box here, but I'm a sucker for true American stories. Jimmy Chitwood may be a fake name, along with the town of Hickory, but the story is still real. Corn, basketball, Dennis Hopper...This is a feel good story from small town America.
-
5 *61
Possibly the most underrated sports movie of the past decade. Director Billy Crystal -- a life long Yankees fan -- did a masterful job bringing Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle to life in this movie. Not only does this film accurately depict the home run chase of 1961, a season that changed baseball forever, but what's more American than baseball and the Yankees?
-
4 The Sandlot
The fact these boys find enough light during 4th of July fireworks to play baseball during a summer night is good enough reason to include this movie on our list. I haven't met a single person that doesn't enjoy this movie. And if you don't, just leave...the country.
-
3 A League Of Their Own
Another movie based on a true story -- a film showcasing the women that kept baseball going while our boys were at war, saving the world. Of course we won the war and these women -- and Tom Hanks, once again -- won our hearts forever. Just remember, there's no crying in baseball!
-
2 Miracle
Kurt Russell does possibly one of the best performances of his career in recreating the late coach, Herb Brooks. This movie also recreates possibly the best sports moment in American history when the incredible underdog -- bunch of teenagers really -- United States hockey team takes down the "unbeateable" Soviets on U.S. soil during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
-
1 Rocky IV
It doesn't get more patriotic than this folks. In my opinion, it is by far the best Rocky film. Our hero takes on the Soviet's Ivan Drago after he kills his best friend, Apollo Creed. Of course we know who wins this epic battle, but the fight never gets old. Plus we get to see another training montage! Go 'Merica!
