10 Star Wars Games That Need to be Made #1
...LucasArts brought us a lot of great Star Wars games. Well, it wasn't actually that long ago, and it actually happened in this very galaxy, but that's besides the point: LucasArts was giving us games like Rogue Leader and Battlefront, and that's all that mattered.
But now LucasArts is gone and EA has sensationally swooped in to pick up the pieces, with the publisher putting developers DICE, Visceral Games and BioWare on the case of bringing us some quality Star Wars titles. But will they be able to live up to LucasArts' illustrious legacy?
Here are 10 Star Wars games that would help them do just that.
-
Star Wars: Battlefront 3
Considering the popularity of the Battlefront series it's still something of a surprise that we haven't received a third iteration in the series this console generation.
It's not difficult to imagine Battlefield developers DICE being assigned the job of finally making Battlefront 3 a reality, and with their wealth of experience concerning balancing on-foot combat with vehicular combat, this one should be considered an inevitability rather than a probability.

A game like Force Unleashed that isn't Force Unleashed
The concept behind the Force Unleashed series was a great deal better than its execution, but that doesn't mean that another original, canonical story set within the Star Wars Universe wouldn't be well-received.
Starkiller's story in the first Force Unleashed essentially led to the Galactic Civil War that in turn led to the events of Episode's 4, 5 and 6, but Starkiller's impact on that galaxy far, far away was dampened somewhat by the anti-climactic conclusion of Force Unleashed II.
So while Force Unleashed III would probably further tarnish Starkiller's unique story, a new IP that also saw the player adopt the role of a Jedi/Sith, perhaps based upon The Thrawn trilogy (a series of books that documents what happens to Luke, Leia, Han & co. following the events of Return of the Jedi) would go down well with fans who want to be reunited with the original cast of characters, but who don't want to be forced to brutally murder them, as was the case in Force Unleashed II's Endor DLC.

Star Wars 1313
Development on Star Wars 1313 was halted following the closure of LucasArts, but considering the hype surrounding it following its reveal, we should be confident that EA won't let it slip between their fingers.
Pitched as a gritty, mature Star Wars title that focused more on gunplay than on lightsaber duels, 1313 could therefore be safe in the hands of Visceral Games, who were steadily moving towards a more action-oriented approach with their Dead Space series.
-
Super Star Wars: The Prequels
No one really liked the prequels, but that doesn't matter for a series such as Super Star Wars.
Super Star Wars was a side-scrolling shooter series that tinkered very liberally with its source material, and the more action-packed Episodes 1, 2 and 3 are perhaps even more ideal fits for its format than the original Episodes were. While it's highly unlikely that Super Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will ever come into fruition, there's no harm in hoping, is there?
-
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3
With BioWare focusing their energy on continuing to support Star Wars MMO The Old Republic, it's perhaps but a pipe dream for fans that they'll see a successor to 2004's Knights of the Old Republic II.
Knights of the Old Republic III was at one point making its way into the developmental process, but after LucasArts hit a rough patch it was cancelled and pushed aside in favour of the MMO. Considering EA's penchant for "going bigger" with their releases, it's unlikely that they'll set BioWare to task with making a smaller, less profitable Old Republic game when they've already got an MMO up and running that's performing reasonably well.
-
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Many now consider it to be one of the best Star Wars games, but at the time of its release Republic Commando was overlooked by many due to its lack of Jedi.
A sequel was planned called Imperial Commando, which was going to place players in the shoes of the evil Empire's footsoldiers, but as tends to be the case with many Star Wars video game sequels, it was unceremoniously canned.
Although we'd rather see DICE take on the Battlefront series, our noses wouldn't be too bent out of shape if they instead took the helm on a Republic Commando sequel which, considering its squad-based and tactical gameplay, would be a perfect fit for the developers.
-
A Star Wars fighting game
The Revenge of the Sith movie tie-in game featured a fighting game mode that, while unpolished, was a lot of fun to play.
Aside from this the only Star Wars fighting game we've been given was the awful Masters of Teras Kasi, but there's still a whole wealth of potential for a one-on-one fighting game set within the Star Wars galaxy. Bonus points if EA hands development duties over to Fight Night Champion developers EA Canada. Precise lightsaber-swinging action? Yes please.
-
Star Wars Rogue Squadron IV
Dogfighting games are practically nonexistent today, but what better game to revitalise the ailing genre than Rogue Squadron IV?
Ditching the poor on-foot sections of Rebel Strike, Rogue Squadron IV could take advantage of the next console generation's improved graphics and offer us some truly breathtaking space combat.
-
An action game series based on all 6 movies.
The new Star Wars movie is coming out in 2015 and we'll likely get a movie tie-in game based upon it, but I'm still holding out for an action series based upon the existing Episodes.
Think Lego Star Wars but without the Lego, with two games encapsulating all of the action in both trilogies and including glorious vehicular set-pieces such as the attack on Hoth, the destruction of the Death Star and, yes, Podracing.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter II
So Star Wars 1313 may be a game about a bounty hunter set within the Star Wars galaxy, but it's not about the bounty hunter of the Star Wars galaxy ,is it? Yeah, you know who we're talking about: Boba Fett.
While the first Star Wars: Bounty Hunter game placed us in the shoes of Jango Fett, we're much more interested in seeing the story of his mysterious cloned "son" Boba Fett. As it has been reported that Boba Fett will be getting his own stand-alone movie, it's not difficult to imagine him getting his own video game, too. Fingers crossed.
