Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has moved up the theatrical release date of its adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat. The animated movie, led by Bill Hader as the Cat was slated to come out on March 6, 2026. And now, it will premiere a week earlier than that.

The Cat in the Hat animated movie from Warner Bros. will now come out on February 27, 2026, and not a week later as previously announced. Hader originally joined the cast in March 2024. He would also executive produce the movie.
The project came into shape after Warner Animation Group acquired the rights to The Cat in the Hat as part of its creative deal with Seuss Enterprises. Initially, Erica Rivinoja and Art Hernandez were attached to the project as directors, but the latter deboarded the project at some point and Alessandro Carloni took his place. Carloni also penned the script with Rivinoja.
Besides Hader, the voice cast also includes Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, and Matt Berry.
The logline for the feature reads, “The Cat takes on his toughest assignment yet… to cheer a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town.”
Released in 1957, Dr. Seuss’ original book has undergone several adaptations. In 2003, a live-action adaptation from Universal Pictures came out, with Mike Myers playing the protagonist. The movie received predominantly negative responses from critics and delivered a lukewarm performance at the box office. Further, Dr. Seuss’ widow criticized the movie and stated she would never let Hollywood adapt Dr. Seuss’ characters into live action ever again. (via Today.com)
When the current iteration of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s adaptation of The Cat in the Hat was announced, studio’s president Bill Damaschke stated, “We are overjoyed to partner with our friends at Dr. Seuss to take audiences of all ages on an adventure into the beloved world of The Cat in the Hat.” (via Deadline)
