Netflix’s upcoming Narnia movie is making headlines with new casting developments. Industry sources confirm that Daniel Craig has been offered a role in the Greta Gerwig-directed adaptation. While his character remains unconfirmed, reports suggest he is being considered for Uncle Andrew Ketterley. Fans are awaiting further updates as production gears up to begin later this year.
Daniel Craig could join Greta Gerwig’s Narnia
Netflix has offered Daniel Craig a role in its upcoming Narnia movie adaptation, directed by Greta Gerwig, Deadline reported.
It is currently unknown whether Craig will accept the offer or which character he will portray. The film is said to be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, the first chronological story in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series. Craig is rumored to be considered for the role of Uncle Andrew Ketterley, an eccentric magician and antagonist in the story.
Netflix announced plans to develop multiple Narnia projects in 2018 and later confirmed Greta Gerwig as the writer and director of the movie. The studio will reportedly begin production in London in June 2025 and go on till Christmas. Netflix plans to release the film exclusively in IMAX over Thanksgiving 2026 before streaming it for Christmas. Charli XCX was also recently linked to the project and is reportedly in talks to play the White Witch. Casting for the two young protagonists continues.
Craig previously collaborated with Netflix as Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) and will reprise his role in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, scheduled for release in late 2025. The actor is also known for his roles in James Bond, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Layer Cake, and A24’s Queer.
Netflix’s adaptation, reportedly of The Magician’s Nephew, will be the first entry in its planned Narnia franchise. The film’s production marks seven years since Netflix acquired the rights to Lewis’ books. Further casting updates and production details are expected as the project moves forward.
