Critics are hating The Electric State in their reviews

The upcoming sci-fi movie has failed to get a good verdict from critics. Based in a post-apocalyptic setting after a robot uprising in the ’90s, the story, as per its official logline, “follows an orphaned teenager (Brown) who ventures across the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler (Pratt), and his sidekick in search of her younger brother.” It is an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name.

Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon in his review, described The Electric State as “disappointing because of the missed potential.” He added, “The movie doesn’t use its settings well enough, nor does it use its character relationships as a strong source of drama.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney also stated that the Russo Brothers directorial doesn’t seem like a real movie. He wrote in his review, “It’s neither funny nor exciting. Like so many streaming originals, The Electric State seems less a real movie than an imitation of one.”

Meanwhile, Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian asserted that the movie didn’t seem original and added, “There’s no soul, no originality, just a great big multicolor wedge of digital content.”

Additionally, Kristy Puchko of Mashable even referred to The Electric State as “trash” in her review. She wrote, “It’s so dunderheaded and cacophonous that I’m still angry about its existence.”
