If recent speculations are anything to go by, fans could see Nicolas Cage reprising his iconic role of Ghost Rider on the big screen after 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday. Viewers have already witnessed similar cameos, with the Shawn Levy-helmed Deadpool & Wolverine bringing back a hoard of legacy Marvel characters. While Cage failed to make an appearance in what served as Deadpool’s debut in the MCU, ongoing rumors suggest that he could portray the Spirit of Vengeance once again in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider rumored to return, but not in Avengers: Doomsday
In a recent discussion, industry insider Alex Perez claimed that while Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider is on track to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it won’t happen in Avengers: Doomsday.
During The Cosmic Circus’ recently conducted Q&A, Perez relayed updates on several topics, including Young Avengers, Moon Knight, The Punisher, and more. When questioned about the return of Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider in Avengers 5, the renowned internet scooper conveyed, “I have heard he’s set to return, but not in Doomsday.”
In the Discord podcast, Perez also managed to shed some light on how the character could kickstart his MCU journey. After denying knowing any details about Ghost Rider’s casting, he stated, “I don’t know much about casting info. It’s rare. Character-wise, I haven’t heard much either. Other than it’s possible, he’ll likely be an agent of Mephisto before he sets off on his own path.”
Nicolas Cage first essayed Johnny Blaze in the 2007 Sony film written and helmed by Mark Steven Johnson. The Academy Award winner then returned to step into the shoes of Ghost Rider for the 2012 sequel titled Spirit of Vengeance. Since then, there have been little to no updates regarding the future of the actor’s take on the King of Hell.
While Alex Perez’s statements seem to indicate that the Longlegs star might enter the MCU setup sooner rather than later, Marvel Studios have yet to share any official word regarding the same.
