Netflix has officially canceled the spy drama The Recruit after two seasons. Creator and executive producer Alexi Hawley acknowledged the cancellation and raised the possibility of a movie to conclude The Recruit. While the show ended on a cliffhanger, he indicated interest in continuing the story with the cast and crew.

Colton Dunn, who played Lester Kitchens in the show, confirmed the news on Threads, writing, “The Recruit has been cancelled [y’all]. Such a bummer.” The show, which features Noah Centineo as CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, had a strong following, with Season 2 debuting in Netflix’s top 10 titles.
Creator Alexi Hawley addressed the cancellation on Instagram, suggesting a potential movie to wrap up the story, asking, “Is two seasons and a movie a thing? Cause we’d all be there in a heartbeat.” He shared the journey of The Recruit, explaining, “It started with a conversation. A show about a CIA lawyer that wasn’t a law show.”
He revealed that the series was initially pitched to the USA Network but was not picked up. “But then the stars aligned in a way they never do. Doug Liman. Noah Centineo. And a new life at Netflix,” Hawley said. He credited Centineo for securing the show, stating, “Practically, having Noah on board got us a greenlight. Creatively, the man is a straight-up movie star who elevates everything he touches.”
Further, Hawley described production challenges, writing, “Season One was rocky. There was a pandemic. Sets weren’t ready on time. Turns out Montreal is super cold in January.” He recalled filming “scenes from six different episodes at the same time to try and catch up.”
For Season 2, he noted, “A move to Vancouver. Eight episodes became six. We wrote, we scouted. And then the strike.” He added, “A bunch of the cast, and a few dozen crew members flew to Seoul for a month to prep and shoot.”
The Recruit premiered in December 2022, running for 14 episodes across both seasons. Season 2 debuted in January 2025, garnering 5.9 million views in its first four days.
