Godzilla x Kong 2 Cast: Jack O’Connell Joins the Monsterverse Sequel

Jack O’Connell is all set to join the Monsterverse with the Godzilla x Kong sequel. Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled the next movie in the franchise, currently known as Godzilla x Kong 2 for a release on March 26, 2027. This untitled movie made it to the studio’s release calendar after the humongous success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, helmed by director Adam Wingard.

Godzilla x Kong sequel adds Jack O’Connell in key Monsterverse role

The Back to Black star has joined the cast of the Godzilla x Kong sequel.

However, as per Deadline, Jack O’Connell’s role is still being kept a mystery by Legendary Entertainment. With his inclusion in the Monsterverse, he will team up with Dan Stevens. The latter will reprise his character of veterinarian, Travis “Trapper” Beasley, who is employed with Monarch. Apart from O’Connell and Stevens, the Godzilla x Kong sequel will also have Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Abby in The Last Of Us Season 2, join the human cast in a mysterious role.

However, there is still uncertainty around the return of Rebecca Hall for the sequel. While talking to Screen Rant in January 2025 during the promotions of her recent film, Peter Hujar’s Day, the actress gave an update regarding her appearance in future Monsterverse films.

When asked about whether her character will be in Godzilla x Kong’s sequel, Hall told the outlet, “I don’t know. Where am I going in the Monsterverse? Nowhere, apparently! No one’s asked me, so I don’t think I’m in the next one.” Rebecca Hall has been an integral part of the Monsterverse, as played Dr. Ilene Andrews in 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. She reprised her role in the 2024 blockbuster, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Meanwhile, the sequel will be directed by Grant Sputore, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is after Adam Wingard’s exit was teased by Legendary’s worldwide production chairperson, Mary Parent in April 2024. Following the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, she shared, “We are in a good position to continue the journey, but let’s see how Godzilla x Kong unfolds.”
