Severance’s Adam Scott on Why He Was Worried About the Apple TV+ Series’ Release

While Adam Scott’s portrayal of Mark Scout in the Apple TV+ series Severance has garnered much praise, it seems the actor had some reservations about how audiences would perceive it before its premiere. Released in 2022, the science fiction drama show revolves around the employees of Lumon Industries, a company that requires its workers to go through a medical procedure that separates their work memories from those of their personal lives. Despite its success, Scott has revealed that he was extremely terrified about being the face of the show. Severance is currently airing its Season 2 and has already secured 14 Primetime Emmy nominations for its debut outing.

Adam Scott reveals being the face of Severance ‘freaked’ him out

In a recent discussion, the Madame Web star opened up about his anxious experience of transitioning from a comedy show like Parks and Recreation to the much more experimental setup of Severance.

Adam Scott relayed his emotions regarding the Apple TV+ show during his recent appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast. “I was so freaked out when Severance first came out a few years ago. It’s like, suddenly, the billboards went up, and it was my face around town. And really, it should have been this big, happy, monumental moment that I’ve been waiting for for 30 years, but it just freaked me out,” the actor commented.

Scott further added that although the Severance team adored the project they had created, they were still skeptical about the general public’s reaction. “We loved it, but had no clue if anyone would like it or if people would just make fun of us,” he remarked. The Golden Globe nominee continued, “You just have zero sense of how it’s gonna be received, so it could have been this big, embarrassing thing.”

Nevertheless, Adam Scott has since come around following the remarkable reception that Severance has received. Noting that the result was worth the trouble, he said, “When you’re kind of out front, it’s frightening, and then also rewarding when you’re doing something that you feel good about.”

Severance Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+, and has already premiered five of its ten-episode installment. New episodes of the series come out every Friday on Apple’s premium streaming service.
