Deadpool & Wolverine’s Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively, were two of the celebrities that attended SNL50: The Anniversary Special event. During a segment, Reynolds stood up and joked about the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni lawsuit, seemingly surprising his wife.

The segment started with Ryan Reynolds raising his hand and addressing hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. He claimed that he had a question. When the hosts asked him how it was going, a seemingly uncomfortable Reynolds responded, “Great! Why? What have you heard?”
Lively, who was sitting beside Reynolds, seemed surprised about the interaction. However, it’s unclear whether her reaction was part of what appears to be a skit.
The interaction was referring to the ongoing controversy surrounding It Ends with Us, a project on which Lively and Baldoni worked together. Lively produced and portrayed Lily Bloom, the adult version of the protagonist, whereas Baldoni directed and essayed the role of Ryle Kincaid, with whom Lily has a troubled relationship. It Ends With Us explores themes such as domestic abuse and emotional cruelty.
In December 2024, Lively approached the California Civil Rights Department to file a complaint accusing Baldoni of sexual misconduct during the production. That month, The New York Times published an article, titled ‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine, in which the publication claimed, citing an interaction between a publicist who worked with Baldoni and crisis management expert Melissa Nathan (from the documents that Lively filed), that Baldoni wanted “to feel like she [Lively] can be buried.”
Later, Baldoni filed a $250 million lawsuit against the New York Times, and Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni. In January 2025, Baldoni sued Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, Leslie Sloan, for $400 million, claiming that the celebrity couple sought to “destroy” him.
