After the Hunt with Andrew Garfield to hit theaters in October 2025

Amazon MGM has set a release date to put out After the Hunt in limited theaters on October 10, 2025, before giving it a nationwide release the following week, on October 17, 2025. This will mean that the movie will share its wider release date with Lionsgate’s Good Fortune and Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2.

The plot of After the Hunt revolves around Julia Roberts’ Alma Olsson, a college professor who “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues, and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light,” per the logline of the movie. Andrew Garfield portrays Henrik Gibson, the accused colleague, and Edebiri plays the role of Maggie Price, the star pupil. The cast of After the Hunt also includes Michael Stuhlbarg as Frederik Olsson, Chloë Sevigny as Kim, as well as Lio Mehiel, Thaddea Graham, and Will Price in other supporting roles.

Nora Garrett penned the script for After the Hunt, and it is her first feature as a writer. As an actress, Garrett has appeared in projects like Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and 8 Confessions in Los Angeles. She is also serving as an executive producer for the movie.

As well as directing, Guadagnino will produce the film. The Italian auteur has garnered widespread recognition for his unique approach to storytelling and his exploration of emotional and physical eroticism. His movie Bones and All won the Silver Lion for Best Direction at the 79th Venice International Film Festival. Guadagnino’s 2017 movie Call Me by Your Name also received an Oscar nod for Best Picture.

Notably, After the Hunt will be Guadagnino’s first feature collaboration with all three leads in the project.
