Actor Cillian Murphy is rumored to be cast as a villain in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. However, this character is Quirinus Quirrell and not Voldemort. The reboot series by Warner Bros. is based on the iconic fantasy novel series penned by author JK Rowling. As per the makers, the TV series is expected to focus on more details from the books, which was limited in the movies.
Cillian Murphy rumored to be eyed for Quirinus Quirrell in Harry Potter show
Cillian Murphy might be the front-runner to portray the role of Professor Quirinus Quirrell in the Harry Potter reboot. Industry scooper Daniel Ritchman recently shared this rumor on his Patreon, mentioning that the Oppenheimer star is being “eyed to play Professor Quirinus Quirrell in the Harry Potter show.” However, as of now, there is no confirmation from Warner Bros regarding Murphy’s casting.
Professor Quirinus Quirrel was portrayed by actor Ian Hart in the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001. This isn’t the first time Murphy has found himself in rumors related to the Harry Potter TV series.
Previously, a rumor suggested that the makers of the reboot were considering the Peaky Blinders actor for the role of the main antagonist of Harry Potter, Voldemort. But there is no confirmation on this as well from the studio.
As reported by ComingSoon earlier, Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the movies, gave his approval on Cillian Murphy taking up the character. In a December 2024 interview with Andy Cohen, Fiennes reacted to the rumors and stated, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.”
The details regarding the casting of the Harry Potter TV series are still under wraps. According to Deadline, the casting for the roles of the golden trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione was ongoing as of 2024 end.
