Reports suggest that Marvel Studios is considering Hunter Schafer for the role of Mystique in its upcoming X-Men reboot. While the studio has not confirmed any casting decisions, sources indicate that Schafer is among the actors in discussion for the role. As Marvel develops its plans for the X-Men in the MCU, speculation about casting and character introductions continues to grow.
Euphoria star Hunter Schafer could play Mystique in Marvel’s X-Men movie
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello, wrote, “Hunter Schafer is being considered for the role of Mystique in the ‘X-MEN’ reboot.” The post has gained significant attention, accumulating over 1.1 million views, as of writing. However, Marvel Studios has not made any official announcements regarding the casting.
Schafer gained recognition for her breakout role in HBO’s Euphoria. She also starred in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Cuckoo. Mystique, also known as Raven Darkhölme, was first portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in the X-Men films. Jennifer Lawrence later took on the role in X-Men: First Class. The shapeshifting mutant, known for her blue skin, has appeared as both a villain and an anti-hero in Marvel comics and films.
As Marvel Studios moves forward with introducing mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), X-Men casting rumors have intensified. Reports suggest that the studio is considering Sadie Sink for Jean Grey, Jack Champion for Cyclops, and Ayo Edebiri for Storm.
Digital artist @spdrmnkyxxiii created an artwork imagining Schafer as Mystique. One image depicts her with the character’s classic blue skin and white dress, while another presents an alternate version of the shapeshifter.
Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with DiscussingFilm that the X-Men will have a significant presence in the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars. “The response to that series (X-Men ’97) just further excited us about how to bring the soap opera and the saga of the mutants to the MCU,” he said.
The studio is still developing the X-Men reboot and is expected to reveal more details as it continues integrating mutants into the MCU.
