Rumor: Robert Downey Jr. Eyed for Next Christopher Nolan Movie After The Odyssey

Robert Downey Jr. could be part of Christopher Nolan‘s next movie after The Odyssey, according to a recent rumor.

The Iron Man actor worked with the renowned director on his Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer in 2023. Currently, Robert Downey Jr. has a packed schedule as he is preparing for his return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. As a result, his involvement in Nolan’s next project after The Odyssey is not yet confirmed.

According to a production weekly listing, Christopher Nolan is working on yet another project titled Die Early, with Robert Downey Jr. as the lead. (via World of Reel)

The new listing stated that the rumored film will be produced by Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas’ production company, Syncopy. Additionally, Nolan is named as the director of the project. Although the listing also says that Robert Downey Jr. will reunite with the director for this film, there has been no confirmation of this from either one.

Die Early is speculated to be the director’s main focus after wrapping up The Odyssey, which is scheduled to debut in theaters on July 17, 2026. According to the listing, the movie is described as “a mind-bending high concept thriller.”

Christopher Nolan and Robert Downey Jr. previously collaborated on the massively successful biopic Oppenheimer, earning the actor his first Oscar for his supporting performance as Lewis Strauss. He even described Oppenheimer as “the best film I’ve ever been in,” as per People.

Nolan is set to start filming The Odyssey in March 2025 with a number of huge stars, such as Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Jon Bernthal, and Robert Pattinson, among others. Robert Downey Jr. is expected to start filming for Avengers: Doomsday in the spring of 2025.
