While the upcoming It: Welcome to Derry series is yet to premiere, the show’s casting director seems to have already confirmed some of the leading kids’ fate in Season 1. Welcome to Derry serves as a prequel to Andy Muschietti’s It franchise and follows the journey of a new bunch of children, or “losers,” as the original flick labels them, in their battle against Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise. The series will also shed light on the origin story of the shapeshifting clown, an angle that was only hinted at in It Chapter Two. While Pennywise will most likely make it to It: Welcome to Derry Season 2, recent updates suggest that several characters from the leading group of kids will not experience a similar fate.
It: Welcome to Derry to kill off one or more kid characters
According to casting director Rich Delia, not all of the new “losers” in It: Welcome to Derry Season 1 will make it to Season 2 alive.
Delia, who also contributed to the previous two It films, detailed the casting process for Welcome to Derry during an interview with The Direct‘s Russ Milheim. He firstly expressed gratitude for getting to work with Andy and Barbara Muschietti for the third time. Delia then talked about how it was a “challenge” to recruit new kids for It: Welcome to Derry, after accomplishing the same in a masterful manner for 2017’s It.
While explaining the casting process, Delia stated, “It was just trying to uncover every stone as possible, to find these kids and find the most amazing, memorable kids that the audience will love, you know, falling in love with, and then some of them, of course, watching them die.”
Despite the comment, Delia did not name the kids who wouldn’t be able to make it to the show’s second season. At the time of writing, the HBO prequel series does not have an official release date.
