Squid Game Season 2 Is Netflix’s Third Most Watched Series Now

Squid Game continues to be a triumphant venture for Netflix. Following the incredible success of the inaugural season, the series was greenlit for Season 2. And when that premiered, it started drawing in considerable viewership, becoming one of the most-watched shows on the streaming giant.

Squid Game Season 2 gets over 152 million views on Netflix since launch

Squid Game Season 2 debuted on Netflix on December 26, 2024, and garnered over 68 million views after the first four days, which effectively made the season the biggest opening on the platform. As things stand now, the latest chapter of Squid Game has drawn in 152.5 million total views, making it the third most-watched season of all time on Netflix after Squid Game Season 1 (265 million) and Wednesday (252 million). The other chapters that also appear in the top five are Stranger Things Season 4 (140.7 million) and DAHMER: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (115.6 million).

The astonishing viewership numbers for both seasons underscore how popular the show is among the Netflix audience. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk spent over a decade trying to get Squid Game made before Netflix came on board. The series premiered on September 17, 2021, and soon became the cultural phenomenon it is now.

Squid Game predominantly revolves around Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a singer father dealing with a gambling addiction in Season 1. Desperate for money, he agrees to participate in a mysterious game and quickly discovers how violent and brutal it can be. Although he eventually wins the game, he witnesses the deaths of most of his fellow players, which leaves him traumatized. In the sophomore season, he returns to the game seeking vengeance.

Since its premiere, Season 2 has held one of the top positions on the Netflix TV shows chart in the U.S. The show’s final season has been announced. According to recent leaks, it could come out on June 27, 2025.
