Meet the Parents 4: Ben Stiller Gives Sequel Update With Robert De Niro

Ben Stiller is in discussions to return for a new Meet the Parents sequel, along with original cast members Robert De Niro, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner. The film remains in early development, with Universal Pictures overseeing the project. John Hamburg, who co-wrote the previous installments, is attached to write the script for the potential follow-up. If finalized, the movie would mark the fourth entry in the successful comedy series that began in 2000.

Ben Stiller has confirmed that a new Meet the Parents sequel is under consideration but clarified that it “is not a done deal.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stiller said, “I think everybody wants to make it happen,” but emphasized that no official agreements are in place. He also reflected on the possibility of his character Greg Focker being in a new phase of life, potentially with grown children, stating, “Maybe Greg has a couple of kids, and maybe one of them is getting married.”

Stiller and Robert De Niro are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles alongside original cast members Teri Polo and Blythe Danner. Deadline reports that John Hamburg, who co-wrote the previous films in the franchise, will write the script for the potential sequel.

However, the project does not yet have a confirmed director. The Meet the Parents series, starting with the 2000 film directed by Jay Roach, became a global success, grossing over $330 million. Its follow-up, Meet the Fockers (2004), was even more successful, earning over $522 million worldwide.

The cast reunited in 2020 for the original film’s 20th anniversary. During the event, De Niro expressed enthusiasm for Meet the Parents 4, saying, “I’m game” (via Today). Stiller shared a similar sentiment, stating he is open to working with the cast again. However, there are no concrete updates on whether Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, or Owen Wilson will return.

Although the new film remains in early development, its status remains uncertain. Universal Pictures has not confirmed a release timeline or production start date. Fans of the franchise will have to wait for further announcements before any new installment enters the circle of trust.
