Rumors have been circulating that filmmaker George Miller has met up with Kevin Feige and Marvel to discuss the prospects of helming a World War Hulk feature. The 79-year-old director has an extensive filmography that includes the Mad Max movies, the Happy Feet animated movies, and The Witches of Eastwick. If the World War Hulk project does end up happening, it will be the first live-action solo Hulk movie since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, in which Edward Norton portrayed the titular character.
George Miller among the directors rumored for World War Hulk movie
The rumors about a World War Hulk movie reportedly started due to a listing by Production Weekly.
The said list claims that the filming for the project movie would start in 2025. Furthermore, according to World of Reel, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has reached out to several filmmakers to direct the project, including George Miller. Mark Ruffalo, who replaced Norton as the MCU’s Hulk, will purportedly reprise his role.
Per World of Reel, Captain America: Brave New World, which is coming out in US theaters on February 14, 2025, will establish World War Hulk for Ruffalo’s character. Moreover, Thunderbolts*, releasing on May 2, 2025, will apparently serve as a “connecting branch” to the Poor Things actor’s first solo MCU feature.
Writer Greg Pak and artist John Romita Jr. developed the World War Hulk comic book crossover storyline for Marvel Comics. It was published via a self-titled limited series and several other titles in 2007.
The plot follows the Illuminati banishing the Hulk from the Earth. However, his pregnant wife dies when the spacecraft he was traveling on explodes. This sets the Hulk on a path of revenge against the Illuminati. He returns to Earth with his allies and battles its protectors.
In the same report, the outlet also claimed that Miller expressed interest in directing Thor 5. Chris Hemsworth, who worked with him on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, was the one who organized the meeting between the filmmaker and Feige.
