LA Mayor Karen Bass Remained Silent When Asked About Fire Dept. Budget Cut

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass remained silent when a reporter asked about her absence during the start of the LA wildfires and about the Fire Department’s budget cut. On Wednesday, Mayor Bass returned to the country to deal with the city’s response to the devastating wildfires. The still-burning bushfires in the county have now spread over thousands of acres with at least five people dead and many more injured. Authorities have issued mandatory evacuations in multiple areas as thousands of residents flee the blazes.

Mayor Karen Bass fails to answer pressing budget question as LA fire rages on

The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, did not answer a reporter’s questions after she returned to the U.S. amid the wildfire rampage. Sky News reporter David Blevins asked Bass about “being absent” when the bushfires started and authorities issued mandatory evacuations for thousands of residents in the county. Blevins asked the mayor, “Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning.” The news correspondent then questioned Bass if she regrets “cutting the Fire Department budget by millions of dollars.”

Bass is presently facing backlash as she returned to the country on Wednesday after thousands had already been impacted by the fires. Blevins asked her, “Have you nothing to say today?” but she remained silent. The reporter continued, “Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?” before bringing up Elon Musk’s remarks about Bass being “utterly incompetent.” However, the mayor refused to answer any of the questions.

Additionally, Karen Bass did not answer questions concerning the Fire Dept.’s budget cut. Sky News’ David Blevins spoke to Bass as she waited to deplane after returning to the country: “Are you considering your position? Madam Mayor, have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster?” Belvins was returning to the country from a trip to Ghana.
