The growing popularity of Apple TV’s Shrinking has led its co-creator, Bill Lawrence, to finally shed light on the fate of Brett Goldstein’s Louis in Season 3. The series made its small-screen debut in 2023 and introduced the audience to Jimmy, played by Jason Segel, who enters a grieving period after losing his wife to an accident. So far, the show has welcomed two seasons, with the third chapter officially greenlit by the creators. With many doubting Goldstein’s future in the series following the events of Season 2, Lawrence has come out to share his thoughts regarding the character.
Brett Goldstein’s Louis almost confirmed to be back in Shrinking Season 3
According to Bill Lawrence, fans can expect Goldstein’s Louis to return in Shrinking Season 3. Other than creative reasons, the actor is also likely to come back to the setup due to his responsibilities as one of the show’s co-creators.
While talking to the Los Angeles Times, Lawrence expanded upon the decisive scene between Louis and Jimmy in Season 2’s finale. He explained the themes that the edition aimed to explore before divulging the audience’s opinion about Louis. “I saw the traffic on the internet of people getting worried about Louis, and it’s what we want them to feel,” he said.
Lawrence then highlighted Goldstein’s association with Shrinking to shed light on Louis’ fate in Season 3. He added, “Also, [people] won’t be surprised if they see Brett again. Because we have the advantage of Brett being one of the creators of the show.”
The multi-faceted TV executive concluded his account by clarifying Louis’ part in the show, remarking, “The idea of getting to show how…[Louis] moves forward interests us. Don’t forget, we pitched this show where the first year is about grief, [the] second year is about forgiveness, [and the] third year is about moving forward. It would be weird to not include his character as part of that.”
Louis experienced a major character arc after his antics in the debut season ended up claiming the life of Jimmy’s wife. However, life came full circle when Jimmy became the person who saved Louis in the Season 2 finale. Considering his story so far, combined with Lawrence’s comments, Brett Goldstein’s Louis should play a significant role in Shrinking Season 3, barring any last-minute changes.
While Shrinking Season 3 has received confirmation, it does not have an official release date as of yet.
