What DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Said About Mysterious Drone Sightings

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently spoke to ABC News about the mysterious New Jersey drone sightings. Previously, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia detailed the situation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that the sightings began in the area in November. Fantasia had also claimed that at the time, authorities knew “nothing” about these devices which flew without lights. Additionally, the representative noted that law enforcement, including the FBI, state police, the Office of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Coast Guard were investigating the matter.

In the latest update, Mayorkas stated that the DHS is unaware of “any foreign involvement” in these New Jersey drone sightings. In addition, the DHS Secretary assured the American public that the federal government has deployed “additional resources,” “personnel,” and “technology” to the state police in an attempt to expand the investigation.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claims no evidence of foreign involvement

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos that those investigating “know of no foreign involvement” in the drone sightings in New Jersey. During a brief segment on “This Week,” Mayorkas highlighted the point concerning the sightings in the northeastern region of the state, adding, “We are vigilant in investigating this matter,” with the FBI leading the probe.

While speaking about national security concerns, the secretary claimed, “If there is any reason for concern, if we identify any foreign involvement or criminal activity, we will communicate with the American public accordingly.” He continued that they are currently not aware of any such concerns and guaranteed citizens to take “appropriate action” if they find these drones pose a potential risk to national security.

Before that, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas concisely addressed the drone sightings in New Jersey. The secretary clarified that while some of these spottings are of the devices, others are “manned aircraft that are commonly mistaken for drones.” Furthermore, he mentioned instances of “duplicative reporting.” Mayorkas then reassured people that they are “on it” and are working in “close coordination with state and local authorities.”

Secretary Mayorkas also addressed President-elect Donald Trump’s post questioning the “government’s knowledge” about these drone sightings. In his response, the government official revealed they “are aware of the drone sightings” in New Jersey. He also replied to Trump’s remark about shooting down these devices, claiming they have “limited” authority when it comes to incapacitating them. Nevertheless, he said that there are agencies “who can do that and are outside our department.”
